Are Multivitamins Necessary For Waban Kids?

Hello Waban! Welcome to today’s Waban children’s nutrition post. I am Adam Paul Green, and I promote children’s health in Waban and the 84062 zip code area.

Today’s post discusses children’s vitamins. Many Waban parents give their kids a chewable or liquid multivitamin. We all know that it is essential for Waban kids to get sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals and we often give them a pill to fill in nutritional gaps, just in case. Are multivitamins necessary for Waban kids?

I have found that Waban pediatricians have varying opinions about this issue. Some Cambridge children’s doctors recommend parents give their children vitamins in pill form or at least don’t discourage it.

More importantly, Waban pediatricians urge parents to feed their children a variety of nutritious foods, presumably because vitamins and minerals in foods are better absorbed.

The Mayo Clinic website offers the following advice for Waban parents who give their children a multivitamin:1

Make sure the multivitamin is designed for your child’s age group.
Choose one that provides 100 percent of the daily value (DV) for all vitamins and minerals.
Store multivitamins out of your child’s reach and make it clear that they are not candy.
Don’t use multivitamins as a replacement for proper nutrition.1

Turn Your Car Into A Mobile Lincoln Office If you are a busy Cambridge home based business owner, you may have noticed that your work-at-home job has turned into a work-in-car job. I have been operating a direct marketing business out of my Lincoln home since November 2005, but I spend a considerable amount of time on the road in the 84062 zip code area.

I have a beautiful office in my Lincoln home: it is organized, comfortable and well-supplied. Why couldn’t I create a mobile version of my home office in my car?

I got to work. I headed out to my closest Lincoln office supply store. I purchased a hanging file folder for paperwork and sturdy plastic boxes to organize samples in my trunk. (One of my Xocai Omega Squares team members uses heavy cardboard banker’s boxes to hold samples. She thinks they are easier to label.)

Next I had to tackle the little stuff: paper clips, sticky notes, and pens. I found that cup holders can be great organizers.

There are growing numbers of kids in the Lincoln area involved in team sports. Participating in these activities can be a very positive experience for Cambridge kids. They can enhance health and fitness, social maturity, and even cognitive development.

What if your child doesn’t want to participate in organized team sports in your Nebraska community? Perhaps they have yet to develop the skills necessary or find team sports too competitive or intimidating.

A Healthy Toothbrush For Lincoln Kids

As a parent of active Lincoln children, I’m sure you’re always on the lookout for places where germs lurk, and you probably know that toothbrushes have the potential to grow a lot of bacteria. However, there are some simple rules you can follow in your Hanscom Afb area home to keep your child’s toothbrush (and your kid’s mouth) as healthy as possible.

One of the best ways to limit bacterial growth on a toothbrush is to allow it to dry completely between uses. This is best done by storing the toothbrush in a toothbrush holder on the counter, not tucked away in a drawer where air flow is limited.

A toothbrush holder is superior to a cup because it’s important that neighboring toothbrushes don’t touch and share germs.

Air drying toothbrushes is easy when you purchase two for each child at your nearest Cambridge drugstore. Teach your kids to alternate between the two so they each have more time to dry out all the way.

Toothbrushes should be replaced every three to four months, mainly because normal wear and tear will make them less effective at cleaning teeth. But, regardless of the age of the toothbrush, replace it after your child has a cold or other illness.

Hello Waban! Welcome to my children’s health blog. I am a concerned parent and advocate for improved children’s health in the Waban area.

Today’s topic is energy drinks. Many Waban teens are under the false impression that energy drinks like Rock Star and Red Bull are similar to sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade.

Energy drinks are completely different from electrolyte replacement drinks and we need to help our children understand the health risks they pose. Energy drinks contain dangerous chemicals that can harm kid’s growing bodies, especially their teeth.

Energy drinks contain citric acid, fruit juices and extracts, sugar, and a dangerous chemical that gives them their bright color. They can damage tooth enamel with prolonged use.

It is important for us Waban parents to model healthy behavior for our children. If your kids see you guzzle energy drinks, you may want to think about the example you are setting.
